News release: Gin Yee will vote "NO" to proposed increase in board member stipend

Gin Yee, candidate for the Halifax Regional School Board, District 3, Albro Lake / Harbourview, Dartmouth Centre, and Woodside / Eastern Passage will vote against a proposed increase in the board member stipend, if re-elected to the school board later this year.

"Education Minister Karen Casey is correct when saying being an elected school board member is one of public service and volunteerism." says Yee. "The Halifax school board needs to set a good example of fiscal restraint. We need make sure that education is the first priority."

If a stipend increase is considered favourable by the majority of Halifax Regional School Board members, Gin Yee will donate the extra funds to a local charity, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Halifax.

"Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Halifax is a leader in mentoring our young people in the community. It is great organization to be involved in."

Gin Yee has served on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Halifax for the last 2 years.
