Speech to the NSSSA Metro Conference
I attended my last NSSSA student
leadership conference 9 years ago. I want to find out if this cheer
still works.
NSSSA how do feel?
I am glad it still works.
Hi, on my name in Gin Yee, Halifax Regional School Board member for
Dartmouth and former proud member of the NSSSA.
I send greetings from the board to all delegates attending this
NSSSA student leadership conference. Thank you for attending:
Auburn Drive High, Charles P. Allen High, Cole Harbour District
High, Dartmouth High, Duncan MacMillan High, Eastern Shore District
High, Ecole du Carrefour, Halifax West,
J. L. Ilsley High, Lockview High, Millwood High, Musquodoboit Rural
High, Queen Elizabeth High, Sackville High, Sir John A. Macdonald
High, St. Patrick's High.
Did I forget any other high schools? I think I did? I think there is
another high school in Dartmouth. What could it be? Opps, it’s
Prince Andrew, go Spartans go.
In my grade 10 year I was shy, quiet, Chinese born Canadian. That
change in 1993 at Saint Patrick’s High when I attended my first
NSSSA conference, SLICE (Student Leaders In Constant Evolution). My
life change at that conference. The NSSSA opened its arms and
embraced me.
This organization taught me to be leader in this community, through
opportunities like being on the NSSSA conference committee /
cabinet, go 3-TIONS go, running for NSSSA President, and having the
opportunities to learn from the best student leaders in Nova Scotia
This year in 2004 9 years after my last year in high school, my
dream that started at the NSSSA has come true. I got elected to
public office as the youngest Halifax Regional School Board member.
Thank you NSSSA. Without you I would not be where I am today.
The people of Dartmouth have put me to work.
I am currently working on in getting back exam exemptions based on
attendance back. With help from the Dartmouth, Lockview, Cole
Harbour, and Saint Pat’s student councils we are 1 step closer to
get exam exemptions back.
In the next few months I am hoping to work with the provincial and
city government to get more education funding.

Thank you
Chantal & Selina for allowing me to speak to you all today. As a
small token of my appreciation I will be giving a small donation to
the NSSSA the best student organization in Nova Scotia. |
